Gangtok,8th Dec: Chairman Tourism,joined by Additional Chief Secretary CS Rao,interacted with media ,here today. Paragliding expert(s) from Germany , Korea Laddakh and Sikkim,were also present.
Speaking about the preparation to relaunch Paragliding in Gangtok as also start it in other Districts ,Sonam Norgay Lachungpa Chairman Tourism and Civil Aviation,said ,’The whole work is being done in Two phases,one is already over.Now the 2nd phase will start ,the land will be explored and checked.It will take some time completing the whole thing. ‘
‘We have a lot of potential,planning to start paragliding in Thangu,Yumthang and revive in Reshithang.North Sikkim is favourite among tourists so we are going to start it there too.At least 1000 tourists visit in a day ,so that needs to be capitalised.Its not only tourists but locals also love paragliding.If we get any suitable land we will revive Reshithang also’, he added.
German and South Korean experts were unanimous about the potential.German expert described it as ‘ a young movement in Sikkim. ‘The Korean lady expert had positive impression and said she would like to visit again with a group of pilots. The expert from Laddakh said, the North Sikkim was almost similar to Laddakh. There were good opportunities in paragliding ,here. The Paragliding Association of Sikkim was happy to see the adventure being focused on . They stressed on the need to revive the paragliding in Sikkim.
