Gangtok:1st Dec: Public Service Commission (SPSC) is the most important and valuable institution for the youth of Sikkim where thousands of people take the exam in the hope of making their future. But for some time now, there has been a growing suspicion and distrust among the people towards this institution. Many are expressing their fear that the recent selection of Sub-Inspectors has been politically influenced or interfered with by the present government. The trust of the people in democracy is the biggest foundation and when citizens raise doubts about any examination, they are not wrong but are strengthening democracy. Citizens have the right to ask questions and the opposition party raising its voice is also an important part of democracy because the opposition is not the enemy of the government, but the protector of the rights of the people and a fair system.
Similarly, the role of Sub-Inspector is very important in the field of public safety. They are responsible for implementing the law in the society, controlling crime, maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of the people, etc. If any political influence hinders the selection of qualified candidates, its impact is directly visible in the society of tomorrow. In such a situation, the trust of the people, especially the youth, in the system decreases, the trust in security and justice weakens, and uncertainty and dissatisfaction can spread in the society as a whole.
‘The foundation of our democracy is transparency, accountability and fairness. The questions raised in Sikkim today are related to the future of the youth and a flawless examination process. Therefore, the SPSC should not remain silent but should immediately restore public trust by demonstrating transparency, accountability and necessary reforms. Refusing a politically influenced, asking for clean and merit-based examination is not an issue of any party, it is a common demand of all the citizens and youth of Sikkim and this demand is the real soul of democracy.’according to M. b. Karki (Advocate/Social Activist)
