
Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim has informed that,Sikkim Chief Minister is attending Rising Northeast Summit 2025
New Delhi, May 23: Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, along with the state’s Commerce & Industries Minister Shri Tshering T. Bhutia, is participating in the Rising Northeast Summit 2025, a two-day event being held in New Delhi to promote investment and development across the Northeastern states.
Organised by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Government of India, the summit aims to position the Northeast as a strategic investment destination. The event brings together key stakeholders, including central and state ministers, global investors, multilateral organizations, and industry leaders.
The summit was formally inaugurated today by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister stated that for his government, EAST stands for “Empower, Act, Strengthen, and Transform.” He remarked, “There was a time when the Northeast was only called the frontier—now it is the frontrunner of growth.”
Also present at the inaugural ceremony were Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State, DoNER, Shri Chanchal Kumar, Secretary, DoNER, Shri Dharmvir Jha, Statistical Advisor, DoNER.
Prominent leaders from the Northeastern states were also in attendance, including Chief Ministers Neiphiu Rio (Nagaland), Lalduhoma (Mizoram), Pema Khandu (Arunachal Pradesh), Himanta Biswa Sarma (Assam), Manik Saha (Tripura), and Conrad Sangma (Meghalaya), along with Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur.
Over 500 pre-summit consultations and a series of domestic roadshows laid the groundwork for the summit, which aims to translate investment interest into bankable projects. The event features a variety of engagements, including ministerial dialogues, business-to-government (B2G) and business-to-business (B2B) meetings, startup showcases, and exhibitions.
Key sectors highlighted for investment include tourism and hospitality, agro-food processing, textiles, handlooms, healthcare, education, IT and IT-enabled services, logistics, infrastructure, energy, entertainment, and sports.
Entrepreneurs from Sikkim are also showcasing their ventures at the summit. Hon’ble Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay and Commerce & Industries Minister Tshering T Bhutia visited the exhibition area to interact with participants and encourage local innovation.
The two-day summit, which commenced today, will conclude on May 24.
