Student Supposedly Kidnapped brought Home by Sikkim Police
Gangtok: 18th March: ‘A message circulating on social media regarding the alleged kidnapping of a minor girl and ransom demand has caused concern among the public. In this regard, it is hereby clarified that upon receipt of the information, Sadar Police acted promptly and initiated immediate steps to trace the victim,’ as per Police.
‘A police team was swiftly dispatched to Siliguri to carry out search and verification. Through sustained efforts and effective coordination, the girl was successfully traced today (Tuesday)evening at the SNT area, Siliguri, where she was found loitering.’
‘During preliminary enquiry, it has been revealed that the minor had deliberately staged her own disappearance. She subsequently attempted to extort money from her parents by impersonating a kidnapper. Using WhatsApp, she sent messages demanding a ransom of ₹3 lakhs and further attempted to lend credibility to her claims by sending voice notes in which she was heard crying and stating that she had been kidnapped.’
‘The girl has been safely secured by the police team and is currently being brought back to Gangtok by the team from Sadar Police Station for further legal formalities and detailed enquiry’,Police added further.
‘The public is requested not to panic and to refrain from spreading unverified information on social media,’SHO Sadar Police Station Gangtok.
