
Nepal, October 10. A team of Vteran Mountaineers from Sikkim, embarked on an Everest Base Camp trekking expedition, arrived at Kyangjuma, situated at an altitude of 3,600 meters, today. The team began their journey from Namche Bazaar at 7:30 AM and reached Kyangjuma after an arduous eight-hour trek.
During the journey, the team visited the Sherpa village of Khumjung, located at 3,800 meters. Known for its rich cultural and natural beauty, Khumjung offered the mountaineers a unique experience. The team explored the historic Samten Choling Gompa, home to a preserved skull believed to belong to the mythical “Yeti” (Himalayan snowman), sparking curiosity and excitement among the group members.
The team also visited the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Heritage Centre and the Everest Museum in Khumjung, where they gained insights into the history, culture, and storied legacy of mountaineering in the Everest region. These sites provided a vivid portrayal of the area’s heritage and allowed the team to delve deeper into the significance of the Everest landscape.
The group plans to rest tonight in Kyangjuma before continuing their trek tomorrow morning. This expedition highlights the courage, dedication, and passion of Sikkim’s mountaineers for the Himalayan region. Their journey aims to reach the Everest Base Camp, the base of the world’s highest peak.
This trek is expected to further promote mountaineering tourism in both Sikkim and Nepal, showcasing the region’s allure to adventurers worldwide.
