
Gangtok,11th Sept : CM of Sikkim P S Tamang, attended the 59th Nathula Vijay Diwas in the presence of Governor , Om Prakash Mathur today at Nathula.
CM has said, ‘On the auspicious occasion of the 59th Nathula Vijay Diwas, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the entire Indian Army and all officers and soldiers serving at Nathula. I also pay deep tribute to the brave officers and soldiers who have laid down their lives for the nation.’
‘This day is a matter of immense pride and is commemorated as Nathula Vijay Diwas,
a continuation of the earlier Nathula Diwas.
Last year, on this very day in 2024, the Governor of Sikkim declared it officially as Nathula Vijay Diwas’.
‘I sincerely salute our courageous soldiers whose bravery and sacrifice ensure our safety. The heroic defense of Nathula and surrounding difficult terrains by our troops exemplifies unmatched dedication and patriotism.’
‘Special tribute to Late Major General Sagat Singh, who, as General Officer Commanding of the 17 Mountain Division, led the victorious defense against enemy forces on 11th September 1967. Under his leadership, our soldiers successfully repelled the attack, forcing the enemy to surrender. We proudly unveiled his bust at the Nathula border, ensuring his legacy forever stands as a symbol of courage and inspiration for generations to come.’
CM Tamang has expressed gratitude to current Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his dynamic leadership, strengthening border villages through the Vibrant Village program and enhancing our defense capabilities. I also commend Defense Minister Rajnath Singh for his continuous encouragement and support to our troops.’
CM has highlighted the State policy for soldiers , ‘Sikkim is proud to provide a 20% reservation in police recruitment for Agniveer soldiers, the first state to do so and supports their training and compassionate appointments for families of martyrs.’
CM has thanked Major General M.S. Rathore, GOC 17th Mountain Division, family members of Late Major General Sagat Singh from Rajasthan and all dignitaries, guests, and military officers present.And has expressed deep gratitude to all the’ jawans who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event successful.’
