Gangtok:23rd Nov: Chairman Sikkim Sports Development Board Rinzing Wangyal Chopel, joined by Adviser to SIMFED Anand Lama were the guests at send off ceremony hosted for Para Athletes, here today. Droupadi Ghimerey Sikkim Divyang society was also present.The khada offering was held at Conference hall , Paljor Stadium.19 players will be leaving for 2nd North East Para Sports meet,Guwahati,to be held from 26th to 29th Nov.2025.
Chairman RW Choppel wished them well and boosted morale of the Guwahati bound players. He said Sports Deptt has taken initiative to send the PWD to Guwahati for the Championship.
Adviser A Lama,appreciated their punctuality and discipline ,which he said he has observed so far.Some of them are Govt employees and very hard working.He also said ‘ CM PS Tamang has been encouraging and supporting Sports &Gamesa lot since 2019.Not only that all the different fields are being given importance. So now Sports getting recognised here. ‘
Additional Director Sports and Youth Affairs,Dr RBI Biswakarma,thanked CM Tamang and Education Minister Raju Basnett for all the support.’ Govt of India has been attaching lots of importance to Paralympics ,so are we.State Govt has given 5%reservation in jobs to Physically Challenged.’
Sikkim has not been able to participate in Khelo India Paralympics due to absence of concerned association here.But now we are going to form Paralympics Association and assign the responsibility to Adviser SIMFED Lama ,who has lots of interest in Sports and games.This time the winners of Paralympics in Guwahati will be sent to Khelo India Paralympics ,once the association is formed,’ said Biswakarma.
