Sikkim Police sensitized on PETA by Meet Ashar Director of Cruelty Response

Sikkim Police from different Districts in participated in the capacity building workshop on Animal Protection here at Police HQ today.The workshop by PETA India had a good response from Police and NGOs.PETA India’s Legal Adviser cum Director of Cruelty Response Meet Ashar,highlighted different Acts including Animal Birth Control Rules,Wild Life( Protection ) Act,Food Safety and Standards Acts,Pet Shop rules,Dog breeding and marketing rules in different relevant judgements of Supreme Court of India. He also explained jurisdiction of Police in case animal cruelty reports are filed/ noticed with Sikkim Animal related Acts .Cruelty to animals is a punishable crime in said Director.
‘ It is important for Police,because mostly the murderers and rapists ,start with animals.Those who torture animals torture human beings also.And in course of time human beings are victimized.Since,Police deals with murder and rape cases they need to know of Animal cruelty also.If action is taken others will be scared of law.’
Senior Police officers including IGP Special Branch Thakur Thapa and SSP Ajai Kumar Rai presented the introductory remarks and Vote of thanks respectively.
