Gangtok,24th Nov:The Press Club of Sikkim, on November 2025, has filed a case at Gangtok Sadar Police Station against Bivek Entertainment, demanding justice on behalf of journalist Nirmal Mangar.
Bivek Chettri, a resident of Bojek in West Sikkim, who runs the Bivek Entertainment page on Facebook, has publicly defamed Nirmal Mangar through a video, making fabricated and baseless statements. In the past as well, he has repeatedly levelled false allegations against the Sikkimese media fraternity.
This time too, without verifying any facts, he used the photograph of journalist Nirmal Mangar in his video and made false accusations against him. The Press Club of Sikkim has stated that this act did not target only Nirmal Mangar but the entire press fraternity.
A few days ago, the Sikkim media along with national media outlets reported on a suicide incident, maintaining confidentiality by not disclosing the victim’s name and location. The news was reported strictly based on the details mentioned in the DSR (Daily Situation Report) provided by the police.
However, using the pretext of criticising the media, certain individuals have publicly revealed the name and address of the victim. Apart from the information officially provided by the police, the media has not disclosed any additional details.
The Press Club has strongly condemned this malicious attempt to defame the media and damage the reputation of an individual. The Journalist fraternity and its representative body — the Press Club of Sikkim — will not tolerate such actions.
Every citizen certainly has the right to criticise or object to any matter reported by journalists. But ignoring facts and spreading baseless and fabricated statements on social media to defame the press and journalists is unacceptable. The Press Club will ensure that such individuals are brought before the law, according to a communique released by Pankaj Dhungel
Publicity Secretary of the Club .
