Gangtok 29th Sept: Shobha Yatra on Religious
procession from the MG Marg to Tibet Road and back to MG Marg,was a treat to eyes.All the communities ,had their banners.Chief Guest Minister Rural Development Deptt Arun Upreti and RK Waling,Chairman led the procession accompanied by MLA Delay Namgyal ,MLA Norbu Lamtha ,Dr SK Rai and S Sherpa Vice President PP OC.
They were all in their ethnic costumes,which looked beautiful.And it was festi to me . Naumati. .baja played here ,had come all the way from Jorethang and Gangtok .Young girls danced in the procession expressing joy.’Lakhe ‘ dancer was centre of attraction.
Vice President,Phul Pati Shobha Yatra Organisation Committee,Sonam Sherpa, said here today,’ Phul Pati day today has been more than a festival ,it is our Unity Day.All the Communities and Organisations joined together on ‘Maha Saptami’ today.’
‘Sikkim a small State is United,we are all one.While there is violence in some other parts ,negative energy has gripped people,but we are all one.It has been symbolises and proved by Shobha Yatra’,added Sonam .@ Sonam Sherpa.# Unity Day # Phul Pati Shobha Yatra.
Question arises – what is Phulpati pati?
Phulpati : the name is self explanatory,that is linked to some types of Leaves and flowers,in a way to nature.The natural products including flowers,fruits ,roots are placed on a high pedestal with aura of divinity .These are carried to temples and home .The most important one being leaves of Wood Apple ( bel.)as 7th day of Dashain fest Maha Saptmi is considered to be the day of mythical marriage of lord Shiva to Goddess Parvati.Shiva is said to be there in Bel leaves.Tarmeric is Durga Inthis way ,Sugarcane,Banana plant,Rice Stalk,Ashoka flowers,Pomegranate and Manavriksha,are all carried to altar(s) while moving in the Shobha Yatra.
Although,first ever State level Shobha Yatra ,the Day of Unity was successful !
