Gangtok:2nd April: Deputy Superintendent of Post Offices,Sikkim State -Manojit Chandra hosted a programme, releasing ‘Permanent Pictorial Cancellation ‘on Khangchendzonga National Park, here today.
The programme initiated by the West Bengal Postal Circle, saw Suprio Ghosh Post Master General , as the Chief Guest and Sheetal Pradhan as the Guest of Honour.
Suraj Thatal,Director KNP Forest Deptt, addressing the gathering at a local hotel said, ‘ Khangchendzonga National Park is a UNESCO heritage. The unique site , is so appealing that is even though there was no such category a new one for Nature and culture was created. ‘
‘It is a heritage being preserved.It is to be conserved for future generations, ‘ he added.
Thatal said firther ‘India Post’s initiative is commendable.It sends message about KNP & Khangchendzonga,beyond contry’s borders also . ‘
PMG S.Banerjee,’Khangchendzonga/ K National Park, is the jewel of India.Its a natural & Cultiral heritage site. Its a treasure trove of biodiversity.As a tribute to it West Bengal Postal Circle has initiated release of Permanent Pictorial Cancellation. ‘
Monojit Chandra proposing the vote of thanks said ‘ Awareness will be promoted through the philatelic initiatives . ‘ He thanked everyone for making it a success.
