Gangtok: 5th Nov: Sikkim’s lone Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba ,raised the urgent issue of drying springs in the Himalayan region during Question Hour,on Thursday urging the Ministry of Jal Shakti to implement a comprehensive plan for their rejuvenation. He emphasized the critical role of springs in ensuring drinking water security for mountain communities and reiterated his commitment to safeguarding the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
In his question about the budget for watershed management ,as also about the UN project and till when will the project take place?He said it was due to changing land use pattern and climate change that the springwater was drying .MP referred to ‘Dhara Vikas’,scheme and if it was to be taken up? He was told that different schemes were implemented.
Jal Shakti Minister ,CR Patil said on the floor of house today,that’ UN could have said that certain scheme was good.There has been no sanction.
Different schemes have been implemented and Rs 38 Thousand Crore for those have been sanctioned across the nation. Some States have been helped through loan also as well help provided for interest on it. The Pilot project is going on , it will be known (outcome of it) only by Diwali next year. PM had sent a project to the ministry according to it farmers will have to use Pipes for irrigation and Sprinklers.This way they will use 3 times less than the 83% water used now and go for cultivation thrice .
