If anyone helps Drug abuser escape he will be transferred: CM Tamang

Police Force not to help Drug Abusers & Traffickers CM PS Tamang
Gangtok,26th June : Chief Minister ,PS Tamang, attended the programme on ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on the theme ‘To Break the Cycle,Stop Organised Crime’as the Chief Guest.He was welcomed by the Advisor ,host deptt ,MLA Pamin Lepcha. CM, has warned Police to avoid supporting and alerting Drug Abusers at the time of any proposed raid.He was addressing the gathering at Manan Kendra ,here today at the programme organised by the State Welfare Deptt.
While appealing the Police,particularly Station House Officers (SHOs) to help reforming the society,CM asked them not to ever inform the culprits about any proposed raid or actions authorities are about to take.He reminded them of the post held by them and the responsibility attached to it. ‘People talk of opening Rehabilitation Centres ok,but why not stop prevent trafficking and abuse of Drugs? Why let them need Rehab,at all,said CM.
‘You have to ensure 90% conviction of the culprits Or face transfer .If any culprit of a case related to violation of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Sikkim Anti Drugs Act case is acquitted the concerned SHO will be transferred.All the Block Development Officers (BDOs) and MOs are expected to rush to the spot if and when a person is nabbed for the Drugs related case ,the officers should immediately be available to register the case ,cooperating with SHOs.’ CM added ‘then only Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Drugs Free India would be fulfilled and of course Drug Free Sikkim.Drug Free does not imply here only Drugs but includes any intoxicants and hard drinks.’
CM was happy to share a recent case in which ‘SHO Shekhar Sewa very actively worked pursuing the Drugs Free State campaign and got success in investigating the whole thing .The convict in this case has been now serving 10 years imprisonment..’ CM Tamang congratulated Shekhar Sewa and further complimented him by saying ‘He should have been posted to Melli or Rangpo the entry points to help combating the Drug menace ,but he has gone from Sadar Police Station to Uttarey West Sikkim.’
Earlier Secretary Social Welfare Sarika Pradhan ,highlighted the importance of the Day .’The theme of the year needs to be focused on also by Breaking the Chains Treatment ,Prevention and Recovery..’
