Gyalshing Police : symposium on revised Criminal laws, Cyber laws, POCSO Act, Menta Health
Gyalshing : District Police organised a symposium on revised Criminal Laws, Cyber Security Laws, POCSO ACT, Mental Health and other issues here at the District Administrative Centre, as a part of the on-going celebration of 50th years of Sikkim’s Statehood.
The attendees have been sensitised on the updated provisions under New Criminal Act, imparted provision under Cyber Crime, POCSO ACT, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
Tenzing D Denzongpa District Collector Gyalshing chaired the meeting that had the participation of Tshering Sherpa Superintendent of Police Gyalshing, Suresh Rai ADC Gyalshing, Resource Persons, HoDs and officials from the concerned departments.
Denzongpa DC commended Sikkim Police Gyalshing for the meeting centred on the issue of unprecedented increase in suicide rates in the district.
DC Denzongpa ,highlighted importance of education for knowledge, experience for offering practical application, and exposure for broadening perspectives and opportunities.
Denzongpa expressed concern over the rising issue of suicides and instances of POCSO in the district, he urged stakeholders to work collectively toward the initiative aimed at prevention.
Denzongpa appreciated the efforts of the Police Gyalshing district under SP .
SP Sherpa ,informed the house on Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) a replacement to the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 (CrPC). He also underlined the provisions of the BNSS and said,’ It’s more specific and public centric.’
SP Sherpa ,mentioned the mandated guidelines revised under the provision pertaining to crime against women and informed the house on the timeline for reddressal under the Indian Evidence Act. He also informed about the alarming instances of POCSO cases in the district and advised the need for effective counselling.
Mr Shepra also informed the house about e-FIR provisions and its procedure. As also the provision and procedures adhered by Sikkim Police whilst addressing the cases of SADA and NDPS ACT
SDPO Dentam Biskash Rai, delivered a talk on Mental Health and Sucide Cases in the district and subsidiaries topics. He highlighted the need to identify Warning Signs timely to prevent suicide and pointed out the responsibility of the concerned entrusted with the task of Evaluation and Treatment.
Aita Hang Subba PI-cum- Station House Officer Dentam PS provided extensive information on the ‘Cyber Crime Laws’ and threats to Government, Property and Individual.
Ms Junnee Rai PI deliberated on POCSO Act, its aims and objectives. She urged reporting the instances of POCSO voluntarily and shared judicial provisions.
Dr Rajiv Gurung (Psychiatrist) briefly addressed the house on Mental Health Care Act and socio-demographic profile on suicide rate amongst men and women.
