Chief Electoral Officer hosts meeting to Review Preparedness for SIR in SikkiGangtok, September 18: A preparatory meeting and sensitization program was held today in the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim to review the preparedness for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls.
The meeting focused on streamlining activities, clarifying responsibilities, and ensuring readiness for the exercise across the State.Discussions during the meeting highlighted the following key points:
• The timeline of SIR beginning with the publication of draft rolls, followed by the period for claims and objections, field verification, and culminating in the final publication. Strict adherence to the schedule prescribed by the Election Commission of India was emphasized.
• The role of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) in supervising and monitoring the revision process, ensuring accuracy and inclusiveness in the electoral rolls, and guiding the BLOs in field-level execution.
• The responsibilities of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in carrying out door-to-door verification, assisting electors in filling forms, identifying cases of deletion and ensuring that no eligible voter is left behind.
• The importance of media preparedness and voter awareness campaigns to ensure wide publicity of the schedule and encourage maximum participation of citizens in the revision exercise.
• The need for inter-departmental coordination and timely execution of activities at every stage to ensure uniformity and transparency across all districts.
The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to carry out the Special Intensive Revision exercise with the ECI’s motto “No eligible Elector is to be left out & No ineligible Elector to be included in the Electoral Roll.”
