
Candle light Rally on 20th August Favour of Rights of Stray Dogs
Gangtok,18th August: Citizens Animal Shelter Sikkim,has organised a Rally on 20th August , in favour of Stray Dogs. They are scheduled to , what they have described as , ‘Walk for the Voiceless -Candle Rally for Street Dogs.’The Rally will start at 4pm, from Zero mile and culminate at MG Marg. It is said to be a Stand Up for Delhi Street Dogs.
‘They cant speak,but we can,Lets be their voice.Lets come together for every stray who deserves love not cruelty.Light a candle carry hope and take a stand for their right to live,’according to the NGO.
But Why at this time ?
Reacting to the Supreme Court of India’s orders to Delhi authorities, to relocate the stray dogs.Within 2 months all the street dogs have to be relocated to shelter homes.
‘But the NGOs Animal activists claim they are raising their voice for ‘Compassion,Coexistence and Humane solution.’
According to record made available to judiciary Twenty Thousand dog bites take place in a day in our country.The Justice R Mahadevan and Justice J B Pardiwala,have directed the authorities in a suo Motu petition to take the dogs to shelter keep them there forever( never release again),immunise them.This they have said has been done for public safety,avoid attack on pedestrians and to avoid risk of rabies.
As a matter of fact a Six year old girl died after she was bitten by a street dog,as a result the petition was filed with the result and solution to relocate the stray dogs. ‘Can the Children be brought back ?”asked the court.
However in view of protests the matter was moved to three Judge bench they have also refused to stay the earlier directions.NN
