The Bharatiya Janata Party, Sikkim State Unit, expresses its deepest outrage and unequivocal condemnation of the irresponsible and insensitive act committed by The Hindu newspaper in its edition dated 13th May 2025, wherein the State of Sikkim was shockingly omitted from the Map of India.
This grave error is not merely a cartographic oversight but a blatant affront to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of India. Sikkim, an inseparable and proud part of India, celebrating its 50 years of Statehood on 16th May, has its distinct identity protected under Article 371F of the Constitution. To exclude Sikkim from the national map, whether by negligence or design, is an insult to the people of Sikkim and an attack on the unity and integrity of the nation.
The BJP Sikkim State Unit demands an immediate and unconditional public apology from the editorial board of The Hindu and a clear rectification of the published material. We further urge the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to take cognizance of this matter and initiate appropriate action against the publication for this irresponsible act.
Such careless representation by a reputed national daily reflects a dangerous disregard for the sentiments and rights of the people of Sikkim. We remind The Hindu and all media organizations of their solemn responsibility to uphold national unity, constitutional integrity, and journalistic accountability.
The people of Sikkim will not tolerate being rendered invisible or disrespected in any manner. BJP Sikkim stands firmly in defence of the state’s honour and will continue to resist any attempt—deliberate or otherwise—to undermine its rightful place within the Indian Union,’ says Niren Bhandari
