GANGTOK:24th Feb: BJP Sikkim Unit has officially filed an Appeal under Section 19(3) of the RTI Act, 2005, against the Sikkim Public Service Commission (SPSC).’ This appeal is not merely a legal formality; it is a direct confrontation with an institution that has chosen to shroud the Sub-Inspector (SI) selection process (Ref: 82/EXAM/SPSC/2025) in a veil of secrecy and suspicion. Following widespread public outcry regarding reported misconduct in the recent SI recruitment, an RTI was filed on November 28, 2025, demanding a transparent breakdown of selection criteria.
The response was a masterclass in bureaucratic mockery’, according to Sangay Gyatso Bhutia,Spokesperson State BJP.
‘On December 16, 2025, the State Public Information Officer (SPIO) provided “information” so evasive and misleading it can only be described as an insult to the intelligence of the Sikkimese people. When a First Appeal was lodged on January 13, 2026, the First Appellate Authority (FAA) chose to hide behind a wall of silence. By failing to respond within the statutory 30-day window, the FAA has not only violated the RTI Act but has signaled to the public that they are above the law. The SPSC’s refusal to show the data is a confession of guilt. If the recruitment was fair, why is the Commission terrified of transparency.’
‘The BJP Sikkim Unit has requested the State Chief Information Commissioner to take “exemplary” action:
1. Forced Disclosure: A mandate for the SPIO to release every shred of recruitment data, unedited and certified.
2. Punitive Penalties: The imposition of maximum penalties under Section 20(1) of the RTI Act against the SPIO for their willful obstruction of justice.
The era of “silent adjustments” and “backdoor entries” must end. The BJP Sikkim Unit stands as a shield for the honest aspirant against corrupt machinery. We urge the State Information Commission to act with the speed and severity this betrayal of public trust deserves. Sikkim’s merit,’added Sangay Gyatso Bhutia, Spokesperson (BJP-Sikkim).@ Sikkim BJP# SPSC# Chief Information Commissioner.
