
BJP Sikkim Observes #SamvidhanHatyaDiwas to Commemorate the Dark Days of Emergency
Gangtok,25th June :BJP Sikkim , observed *Samvidhan Hatya Diwas* at the City Office in Gangtok, marking the 50th anniversary of the Emergency imposed on June 25, 1975—a day remembered as a dark chapter in Indian democracy. The event was attended by key party leaders, including State Vice President , Dinesh Chandra Nepal, Media Incharge Niren Bhandari, District President , Pempo Dorjee Lepcha, Coordinator Sangay Pulger, alongside party executives, Mandal Presidents, and dedicated Karyakartas.
Addressing the gathering, Niren Bhandari, Media Incharge, delivered a speech reflecting on the grim history of the Emergency and its profound impact across India, including Sikkim. He noted that Sikkim, having merged with the Indian Union j a month prior to it ,in May 1975, was immediately subjected to the oppressive measures of the Emergency. Bhandari paid tribute to the relentless struggle of Jan Sangh leaders, including Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L.K. Advani, and Narendra Modi, who courageously raised their voices against the authoritarian regime to defend democracy and civil liberties.
Niren Bhandari, Media Incharge, urged all Karyakartas to steadfastly uphold democratic values and ensure that the dark days of the Emergency never resurface. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding India’s democratic principles to prevent such a crisis from recurring.
The event concluded with a renewed pledge by BJP Sikkim to protect and strengthen the democratic principles enshrined in the Indian Constitution. The party urged citizens to remain vigilant against any attempts to undermine the nation’s democratic institutions and to honor the legacy of those who fought for freedom during those dark days.
