BJP Delegation Visits Sikkim University to Address Controversial OSD Appointment and Campus Dela
Gangtok, Sikkim – Dec: 11th: A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sikkim unit, led by its official spokesperson Sangay Gyatso Bhutia and accompanied by State Secretary Sangay Pulger, ST Morcha President Karma Sonam Bhutia and Gangtok Mandal President Rajen Tamang, today visited the Sikkim University campus at 6th Mile, Tadong, Gangtok. The visit was prompted by the recent and escalating controversy surrounding the appointment of an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Vice-Chancellor (VC) and serious allegations of financial malpractices against the incumbent.
Demand for Transparency in OSD Appointment
The BJP, as a responsible party, felt compelled to intervene following recent press releases by the Sikkim University Student Association (SUSA) and the Sikkim University Non-Teaching Staff Association (SUNTSA). Both associations have raised grave concerns regarding the OSD’s alleged history of financial malpractices during his tenure as a Financial Officer at Tezpur University.
During the meeting with the University authorities, the BJP delegation highlighted a serious angle of nepotism that has come to light. The party noted the coincidence that both the Vice-Chancellor and the OSD belonged to the same state and region, strongly suggesting that the timing of the recruitment and the specific criteria for the OSD post were “tailor-made” for the selected individual.
The BJP has formally demanded an official clarification from the University on several critical points:
• The rationale behind creating the OSD post when the crucial posts of Finance Officer and Registrar remain vacant.
• Confirmation that rigorous verification procedures were strictly followed for the candidate.
• Assurance that all recruitment norms were fully and strictly adhered to in the appointment process.
*Enquiry on Permanent Campus Construction*
The BJP delegation also took the opportunity to address the long-pending demand of the student fraternity regarding the completion of the permanent campus in Yangang, Namchi District. Students have been facing considerable hardships due to the prolonged delay.
In response to the BJP’s enquiry, the Sikkim University administration stated that the construction of the permanent campus is targeted for completion by March 2026. Following this, the due process of shifting the University to its permanent location will commence.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is steadfastly committed to the welfare of the students and the academic future of Sikkim University.
“We will always stand with the student fraternity for its justice, demanding transparent administration and world-class infrastructure. The youth of Sikkim deserve nothing less than the truth and a fully functioning permanent campus,”
The party will continue to monitor the situation closely,’ according to Sangay Gyatso Bhutia
Spokesperson, BJP Sikkim .
