Gangtok:19th August,: All Sikkim Ishai Kami Damai Sharki Welfare
Senior Advisor,DK Biswakarma,stressed on political rights,position in Zilla and Gram Panchayats also for contesting the Municipal Councillor posts.He said earlier Chogyal had given reservation in council from 1967 but it was done away with.Even they could not be protected by Article 371F.( Here it’s to be pointed out that it was not based on Christianity exclusively).He has demanded a legislative action to strengthen them and to recognise their status through issuance of certificates .And to increase 2%rezervation to 5 % at least.
Association,President ,addressing media here today,said ‘ Though the IKDS have secured 2% reservation in Govt jobs,yet no certificate/ document is available to authenticate their status.We are grateful to Govt as they have given us employment opportunities and employed too.We request for more % of reservation for the Kami Damai and Sharkis of Sikkim who have converted to Christianity,’said Purna Biswakarma,President of Association.
General Secretary,Bishal Trikhatri said, the
association has been formed and registered due to compulsion and need of the hour We need to unite We have Social,political and economic issues to be solved besides unemployment.Once we have set up office se would be going to Village block level to increase membership .Subsequently we will represent our issues in the concerned Deptt.’
‘ We would like our Ishai KDS s to be members of the association and not to confuse it with Scheduled Caste category .It is parent organization but we are known as Ishai Kami Damai and Sharkis of Sikkim ,having embraced the Christianity.
Pl add the association has also demanded OBC status like West Bengal.Or kindly include it in Heading.
