Gangtok,25 Sept : The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has expressed its deep concern and solidarity with the people of Rimbi who have been severely affected by the recent landslide and continuous rainfall.
The party is deeply distressed by reports of damage to homes, properties and the livelihoods of local families. The situation is particularly concerning as Rimbi and several other vulnerable areas of Sikkim have been witnessing repeated landslide activity amid persistent and heavy rainfall. Recent reports have also highlighted the evacuation of vulnerable residents in Rimbi and continuing risks from debris and water flow in the area.
The SDF conveys its heartfelt sympathy to every family affected by this disaster and prays for their safety, strength and protection during this difficult time.
The SDF demands that the Government of Sikkim and all concerned authorities provide every necessary assistance to the affected people without delay. This must include immediate relief, safe shelter, food and essential supplies, financial assistance, medical support and assistance for families whose homes and properties have been damaged.
At the same time, the party believes that relief cannot end with immediate response. The Government must formulate and implement a long-term safety and rehabilitation plan for vulnerable families in Rimbi and other landslide-prone areas. Proper scientific assessment of vulnerable zones, safe relocation wherever necessary, strengthening of protective infrastructure, drainage and road connectivity, and continuous monitoring of high-risk areas must be given priority so that people’s safety is protected not only today but in the years ahead.
The SDF also urges the Government to maintain close coordination with district administrations, disaster-management authorities, local bodies and communities and ensure that assistance reaches every affected household on the ground.
The party further appeals to the people of Rimbi and across Sikkim to remain extremely alert and cautious as the state continues to experience persistent rainfall. Residents living near steep slopes, streams, rivers and known landslide-prone areas are urged to follow official advisories, avoid unnecessary movement through vulnerable locations.
The SDF stands with the people of Rimbi in this difficult hour. The safety, dignity and well-being of the people must remain the foremost priority, and every necessary step must be taken to protect lives and livelihoods, according to a Spokesperson
