Leh: 11th Sept: Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Dr. Indra Hang Subba is on the Study Visit with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (2025–26) being held here.
As part of the visit, the Committee held discussions with the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) in the presence of the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh. The discussions covered foodgrain storage, distribution and the delivery of essential commodities, along with challenges in ensuring an efficient and responsive public distribution system in the region.
The Committee also interacted with officials of the Department of Consumer Affairs and Department of Financial Services, as well as representatives of State Bank of India (SBI), Punjab National Bank (PNB), UCO Bank, Bank of Baroda and J&K Bank.
The discussions focused on customer services, the increasing incidence of banking and financial fraud, consumer awareness, incentive schemes and loan facilities available under various government subsidy-linked programmes. The Committee also deliberated on measures to improve accessibility and ensure effective delivery of these services and schemes to beneficiaries.
The study visit provided an important platform for the Committee to understand ground-level challenges and deliberate on measures to strengthen consumer welfare, food security, public distribution and financial inclusion.
