Guwahati:19th May: Minister for WR/ PHE/ Eccls Ven. Sonam Lama attended the 14th Meeting of the High Powered Review Board of Brahmaputra Board under the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Govt of India) and the 6th Governing Body Meeting of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management ( NERIWALM) at Guwahati today .
The meeting was presided over by the Union Jal Shakti Minister , CR Paatil alongwith Union Ports, Shipping & Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhusan Chaudhary alongwith concerned ministers of all the North East States. The Sikkim delegation comprised of the Water Resources Deptt, Secretary ,LD Lamtha and PCE/ WRD Rajiv Subba.
The meeting was significant as Sikkim and West Bengal have been included in the Brahmaputra Board as full fledged members. During the course of the High Powered Review Board meeting, Union Jal Shakti Minister emphasised on completing the ongoing projects on war footing. He stressed that the Brahmaputra Board and its objectives shall be most instrumental towards ensuring all round developement of the north east region as emphasized by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He further stated that the Jal Shakti Ministry is committed to ensure north eastern region reached accelerated heights of progress and prosperity. Union Ministers , Sonowal and Chaudhary, while delivering their keynote speeches, highlighted on agro- economy diversity and its integrated developement including infrastructural development with the immense water resources in the north eastern region that unfolds infinite economic opportunities as also of generating employment.
Speaking on the occasion, Sikkim Minister Sonam Lama expressed immense gratitude to the Prime Minister and his Government on having included Sikkim as a full fledged member of the Brahmaputra Board and hoped that this historic inclusion shall definitely lead Sikkim to newer heights of development. He brought to the notice of the High Powered Review Board ,the problems being faced by Sikkim .And said those will surely find effective solution through the Brahmaputra Board.
The participants discussed the Agenda of 14th Meeting of High Powered Review Board , coordinated by Bhramaputra Board Chairman Dr. Ranbir Singh.
Later, Union Minister Paatil virtually inaugurated the International Hostel – cum – Guest House of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM).
