Gangtok:24th April; National Panchayati Raj Day 2026 was observed at the Auditorium Hall of the Gangtok District Zilla Panchayat with active participation from officials, members, and staff.
The program was graced by Bala Ram Adhikari, Zilla Panchayat Adhakshya, Gangtok, as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by all Zilla Panchayat members, the District Panchayat Officer (DPO), officers and staff of the Zilla Panchayat, along with representatives from the Engineering Cell, Accounts Cell, and Administrative Cell.
The program was hosted by the Deputy Director, PRI. During the event, three Zilla Panchayat members delivered brief presentations on the Panchayati Raj system, followed by a short address from the DPO highlighting the significance of the day.
In his address, Bala Ram Adhikari spoke about the Panchayati Raj system and emphasized the importance of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1993. He also highlighted the Sikkim Government’s initiative of providing 50% reservation for women in Panchayats, promoting women’s empowerment in the state.
