Gangtok:14th April: Under the Chairperson ,Deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa joined by MLA Kala Rai Vice. Chairperson ,a Rally Organising body in support of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,is all set to march from Tata stand Deorali to Palnor Stadium,here via hospital dara.
Chairperson Raj Kumari Thapa announced rhe Rally here on 17th April .’ The Rally wohld be organised across the State,including all the Six Distt.Ir is to thank the PM Narendra Modi for giving 33% reservation to women ( Parliament and Legislative bodies).Our women need to prepare themselves capacitywise for the said responsibility Its a historic law Empowering women .’
Dy Speaker Thapa added it is apolitical rally and will be joined by all.
MLA Kala Rai,Vice Chairperson of ROC,said’ The Adhiniyam is being discussed all over. Its a matter of pride for us. We are happy as it is going to be through soon.So all non political mass rally will be held as a gratitude and support to the NSV Adhiniyam.’ MLA P Lepcha also was present.
All other women dignitaries were also present in support of the Rally.
It is to be pointed out that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was passed in 2023.Now it will be placed in the parliament for Constitutional Amendment.So that 33%Reservation can be implemented from 2029 .Govt peoposes to increase seats in Parliament and Legislative bodies reservation for women without reducing seats for men.It is to increase LS quota from543to 816-856,to accommodate 33%.
Sikkim has +52% Nari reps in n Panchayats.But if seats are increased before census and completion of delimitation the women will have additional opportunity to play at all different higher levels.
