Gangtok:5th April:The Sikkim Newar Guthi successfully organized the Newa Youth Meet 2026, which also served as the first preparatory meeting for the upcoming Sikkim Newa Fest 2026. The event featured an open discussion and brainstorming session aimed at fostering unity, promoting cultural awareness and encouraging active youth engagement within the Newar community, while laying a strong foundation for the forthcoming festival.
The program was spearheaded by the Youth and Students of the Sikkim Newar Guthi with participation from various academic institutions including NBBC Tadong, ICFAI University, Manipal University, Burtuk College, TNA, Holy Cross School, SGCB and SYAO among others. This reflected a committed effort to empower young members and create a meaningful platform for dialogue, collaboration and cultural exchange.
The event was graced by Bhaju Jun Pradhan, Culture Secretary, Assam Newar Organisation and commenced with a welcome address by Bhaju Suben Pradhan, setting a positive and encouraging tone for the gathering.
Key Highlights of the Program
• Bhaju Bikash Pradhan reflected on the historical condition of the Newar community and the Guthi in Sikkim, emphasizing that sustained collective efforts have significantly uplifted the community over time.
• Bhaju Dr. Mohan Pradhan presented a data-driven perspective on key demographic concerns such as declining birth rates, a shrinking younger population, and a declining proportion of productive age groups, along with low representation in state institutions and professional sectors. He emphasized that these trends may adversely impact future growth and opportunities, underscoring the urgent need for demographic awareness, institutional development, and sustained motivation. He further encouraged youth to understand these challenges, identify existing gaps, and contribute meaningfully toward the community’s development, sustainability, and representation.
• Bhaju Ajay Pradhan outlined the roadmap for the Sikkim Newa Fest, 2026 (“सिक्किम नेवा: ज्याभव”) to be organised by Culture and Youth Section of SNG, emphasizing the vital role of youth participation in shaping an inclusive, vibrant, and impactful celebration.
The session was further enhanced by the valuable support, suggestions, and guidance of senior members, including Bhaju Uttaman shakya, Bhaju Gagan Pradhan, General Secretary, SNG, Bhaju Mani Kumar Pradhan, President, SNG, and other CEC members. Their insights added direction and depth to the deliberations. The President assured full support for the event in every possible way.
An open discussion and brainstorming session followed, forming the core of the meet. Participants actively shared ideas, suggestions, and strategies for organizing the upcoming festival, while also focusing on strengthening youth involvement and community development.

The program concluded with an address by the President, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Bhaju G.R. Pradhan, acknowledging the contributions of all participants and organizers. The Master of Ceremonies was Meiju Anisha Pradhan, along with the organizing team.
The event culminated in a traditional Newari Bhoj.
