Gangtok, March 28: The Sikkim Newar Guthi celebrated World Newah Day with great enthusiasm at Guthi Bhawan, Barpipal Sichey, Gangtok bringing together members and representatives from across the state.
World Newah Day provides a meaningful platform for the Newah community worldwide to come together in celebration of their rich cultural heritage. It is an occasion to honor the ancestors who shaped this remarkable legacy, foster goodwill and friendship between Newah and non-Newah communities and express pride in Newah identity. The day stands as a symbol of unity shared by Newah people across the globe.
The initiative was first launched by the World Newah Organization in 2018. Since the Newah communities worldwide have been observing World Newah Day on the last Saturday of March each year.
The celebration was graced by the President of Sikkim Newar Guthi, Mani Kumar Pradhan along with executive members of the central body and representatives from various Sakha Newar Guthis across Sikkim.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed by blessings from the Living Goddess Kumari Mata adding spiritual significance to the occasion.
Addressing the gathering President Mani Kumar Pradhan emphasized the importance of World Newah Day and highlighted the need for unity within the community. He called upon members to actively engage in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Newar community.
He also outlined upcoming programmes and initiatives of the Guthi, encouraging greater participation and collective efforts to strengthen cultural identity for future generations.
