Gangtok:27th March: ‘ Sikkim Democratic Front is boycotting the Urban Local Body elections, to be held on 24th March ‘ said Senior VP Publicity of Party , Krishna Kharel here today.
‘Elections to Local Urban Bodies should be postponed.Till we dont get proper ratio of seat reservation,we wont take part in the elections.’
We are straightaway boycotting election.We are not satisfied with the ratio of reservation of seats to population , declared by the State Election Commission. We had submitted a memorandum to SE Commission , but no satisfactory response ,’ said Kharel.
Vice President Publicity,Kharel alleged ,’ The reservation is anti constitutional, its encroachment on it . we cant support it at the expense of rights of public,we being a responsible party’,added Kharel.
On the other hand CM PS Tamang has already said that the seat reservation ratio has been fixed in keeping with the survey done
However,he welcomed Govt decision to conduct party based election.
But Kharel objected to GMC Councillors moving around in Govt official vehicles even after the model code of conduct has been enforced.He was accompanied by Urvashi and B Pradhan, Spokespersons.
