Gangtok:Sikkim is celebrating International Film Festival from 19th to 22nd March. On the occaion Chief Minister PS Tamang, has highlighted the significance of Sikkim International Film Festival.
CM Tamang has said , ‘As we proudly celebrate 50 years of Sikkim’s Statehood, this Golden Jubilee marks a moment of immense pride and reflection. On this historic occasion, we are honoured to host the first-ever Sikkim International Film Festival 2026 here in Gangtok in the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur Ji.’
CM added , ‘Sikkim International Film Festival is a significant step towards establishing Sikkim as a vibrant hub of art, culture, and creative expression. It aims to position our State as a meeting point for cinema, creativity, and cultural exchange in the Himalayan region, while creating opportunities for our youth.’
‘Cinema is a powerful medium that transcends borders, connects people, and fosters understanding. Through this festival, we seek to celebrate storytelling while encouraging dialogue, collaboration, and innovation. Our partnership with international participants, including the European Union, further strengthens cultural ties and broadens perspectives’.
‘The festival highlights include the Short Film Competition for regional filmmakers, the Film Market for creative collaboration, and workshops led by industry experts, each contributing to the growth of a strong creative ecosystem.’
‘Our Government remains committed to promoting the creative economy through progressive initiatives such as the Creatorpreneur Policy, support for artists, and incentives for filmmaking in Sikkim. These efforts aim to empower youth, preserve our cultural heritage, and position Sikkim as a preferred destination for filmmakers.’
‘With its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural identity, Sikkim holds immense potential in the world of cinema. Through initiatives like this festival, we aspire to place Sikkim firmly on the global cultural map.’
