Sikkim Akademy stall had Good response many books bought: Puran Yonzon GS
Gangtok:16th March: Sikkim Akademy joined orhers in exhibition and sales of books.Akademy led by P Rai Jumeli President boasts of galaxy of literateurs.Speaking to this Reporter Puran Yonzon General Secretary,said ,’DC office had invited us.We observed many people interested in reading books Its good buying books ,as one can read and tell others also,their children also get into reading habits.’He was speaking from Sikkim Akademy book stall in the book fair ,MG marg here .
‘ There is lits of mobile addiction,so people have not been paying much attention to books.We also aim to lead people away from mobile/ internet to book reading culture,’ added Yonzon.
Speaking about the latest milestone in publishing , Yonzon referred to , ‘ Role and Contributions of Nepali speaking Indians’. It has been published in Two volumes. It would be used by research scholars ,students in Colleges and University. ‘
Pushpa Lal Sharma Secretary, highlighted the encouraging and recognition being given to creative people.’We have instituted an award for art literature and culture. first ever award was given for art to S Rai. It carries Rs 1lakh and Five Thousand (+ CM gives aeay 1 lakh and 50 Thousand).In 2025 Bharat Rai from Deythang Rabongla was given for bamboo craft 2026 is yet to be decided. ‘
Secretary Literature and Culture Pradyuman Shrestha, said Akademy having published many books has many still with the organization. We have decided to zell out books with30% concession to students. This is also done with the aim of encouraging reading habits.And to wean away students from mobiles.We want Sikkim to have better reading culture.’ The 3 day book exhibition concludes today.
