Gangtok/ Darjeeling : 7th March :President Smt.Draupadi Murmu, today visited Bidhannagar in Phansidewa, Darjeeling district and planted a tree here at Bidhannagar Santoshini Vidyachakra School Gate.
‘The International Santhal Conference was supposed to be held in Bidhannagar under Phansidewa in Darjeeling District. However, it has come to light that the venue was shifted, as the West Bengal government and the administration refused to give permission for the Conference to be held in the Adivasi majority area. It almost feels like the WB Government wanted the Program to be a failure’,according to MP Darjeeling in Raju Bista .
‘Showing extraordinary leadership, President travelled more than 30kms to Bidhannagar to meet with the Adivasi people, and honoured the people of our region by her towering presence. We are deeply grateful for her resolve, and for being such an inspiration.,’ added Bista.
‘It is shameful that the West Bengal government failed to provide basic courtesy and facilities generally accorded to the President. Protocol wise, the president Should have been received at the airport by the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary to the State Government and/or a Senior State Cabinet Member should have been present. However, none of the West Bengal Government Ministers were present to receive her today. It was not only a breach of protocol, but a complete disdain and disregard towards the First Citizen of our nation’.
‘What the West Bengal government resorted to today was an absolute disrespect of the President, 140 crore Indian citizens, our Santhal and Adivasi communities. They have time and again exhibited a complete disregard for the sentiments of the people of Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars, today the West Bengal government went a step forward and exhibited the same disregard for the sentiments of our nation, ‘ MP Bista added further
