Gangtok:7th March: The Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee has welcomed the appointment of its President Gopal Chettri as District Election Observer for Kalimpong for the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election by the All India Congress Committee.
As per the official communication issued by AICC General Secretary K. C. Venugopal, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed ; Chettri as the observer for Kalimpong district in the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, with immediate effect.
The SPCC stated that the appointment reflects the confidence and trust reposed by the central leadership of the Indian National Congress in the leadership, experience and organisational abilities of Gopal Chettri.
The party further stated that it is a matter of pride for Sikkim that a senior leader from the state has been entrusted with an important electoral responsibility in a key district of West Bengal.
The Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee expressed confidence that under his guidance and experience, the party organisation in Kalimpong district will be strengthened during the election process.
