Gangtok:4th March: Singtam Police achieved a significant breakthrough in its ongoing anti-narcotics drive with the arrest of one individual found in possession of suspected contraband substances.
Acting on credible source information today, at the behest of the SHO, Kishor Chettri a ‘ Police team from Singtam Police Station conducted a swift operation at Sirwani area, East Sikkim. During the operation, one individual identified as Rinchen Sherpa, aged 32 years, S/o Sonam Sherpa, R/o Dochum Sirwani, Singtam, East Sikkim, was intercepted while allegedly driving a vehicle bearing registration No. SK07P-0479 (Maruti Swift).’
‘It was reliably learnt that the accused had been using the said vehicle for transportation as well as for selling suspected contraband substances to prospective buyers in and around Sirwani Fatak, Singtam area’.
According to Police ,’Upon conducting a thorough search in the presence of a Gazetted Officer (BDO Khamdong) and independent witnesses, approximately 14 grams of suspected brown sugar was recovered from his possession. The contraband substance was found concealed inside the right pocket of the pant worn by the accused at the time of apprehension.’
‘The seized contraband was formally recovered and seized by PI Mamta Rai following due legal procedures. A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and possible distribution network of the seized substance,’added Police.
‘Singtam Police reiterates its firm commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and appeals to the public to continue extending cooperation and timely information to law enforcement agencies in the collective fight against narcotics.’
