Sikkim is Well Prepared for Earthquakes -Relief Commissioner
Gangtok:28th Feb:In the wake of repeated and frequent tremors, particularly 4.6 magnitude earthquake on 26th , Relief Commissioner , State Disaster Management. accompanied by Director SSDMA Prabhaker Rai asked people not to panick.
RC cum Secretary ,Rinzing Chewang Bhutia, asserted that the State is well prepared to face earthquakes.SDM teams have been visiting Schools to generate awareness among students and teachers.Teachers have been provided guidebook for the same.In eural areas Village Disaster Committees have been formed,all the reported genuine,eligible cases are compensated for.
‘Do not panick in case of occurrence of earthquake.It is always better to identify a safe place to sit when earthquake takes place .It can be under a table or cot.Public need to identify an escape route during normal times.So that once it stops shaking they can go out to that open and safe place ,’ said Relief Commissioner cum Secretary Land Revenue Deptt.
Tracing the recent chronological occurrence of quakes in the area and around RC said , ‘ Alrogether 57 occurrences were there out of those 41 Earthquakes took place in Sikkim,rest happened in Nepal,Bhutan and Tibet .’
