Gangtok, January 14: The Board of Control for Cricket in India appointed Mr. Rinzing Namgyal Bhutia, Honorary Secretary of the Sikkim Cricket Association (SCA), as the BCCI Match Observer for the second One Day International (ODI) match of the ongoing IDFC First Bank three-match India–New Zealand series played today at Rajkot.
This appointment marks the second occasion on which Mr. Bhutia has been entrusted with the responsibility of Match Observer by the BCCI. Earlier, he served as the Match Observer for the India vs England T20 International held in Chennai in January 2025.
The Sikkim Cricket Association congratulated Mr. Rinzing Namgyal Bhutia on this significant appointment and expresses gratitude to the BCCI for its continued faith in administrators and officials from Sikkim.
Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Rinzing Namgyal Bhutia stated: “I express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported me throughout my journey. I am especially thankful to former BCCI Secretary Shri Jay Shah, now ICC Chairman, whose leadership has significantly strengthened India’s presence on the global cricketing stage. His initiatives and consistent performance have played a vital role in reshaping Indian cricket on the world map.”
He further added: “I would also like to sincerely thank BCCI Secretary Shri Devajit Saikia and IPL Governing Council Member Shri M. Khairul Majumdar for their immense trust, respect, and confidence in my abilities, and North East Cricket Development Committee as well.”
Mr. Bhutia remarked that this achievement is not just personal but belongs to the entire youth of Sikkim and the Northeast as a whole. He emphasized that regardless of the field one chooses, dedication and honesty inevitably lead to success. Society, he noted, holds in high regard those who achieve their goals through sincere hard work, and true progress is possible only when individuals are honest, hardworking, and self-reliant. He concluded by encouraging everyone to always strive to be good and do good, affirming his belief that divine support accompanies those who walk the right path at every step.
Mr. Bhutia also conveyed special thanks to the Hon’ble Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), State Youth President Shri Lakpa Moktan and all the members Of North East Cricket Development Council State Members and the Members of Sikkim Cricket Association. He emphasized that the love, encouragement and support of his family and friends have been instrumental in his journey and achievements.
Mr. Rinzing Namgyal Bhutia’s association with cricket spans both playing and administrative roles. He began his cricketing journey representing Sikkim at the U-16 and U-19 levels, later earning selection in Sikkim’s inaugural Ranji Trophy team and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy squad.
Beyond his playing career, he co-established a local cricket club in his hometown with his brother in 2000, which continues to actively participate across all divisions of cricket conducted by Sikkim Cricket Association. His leadership journey further includes serving as President of the North District Cricket Committee, before assuming responsibilities as a Honorary Secretary of SICA.
