38 Consumer Complaints Registered within 6 Months: Projects Consumer Rights Awareness

Gangtok:9th Jan: Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Deptt,under Minister, Bhoj Raj Rai, has the most useful unit, called ‘ State Consumer Helpline, ‘ with Legal Metrology unit.
The Counsellor,SCH unit Sunita Subba,helping consumers to find solutions to their problems,said ‘ from July to December ’25 altogether 38 cases were registered.While all the 5 Districts saw consumers filing complaints,North Sikkim reported ‘Nil’.
Sunita Subba said , awareness generation campaigns were held across the State, including 6 districts.
‘We mostly get complaints related to e-Commerce,people file complaint against booking Vehicles and hotels, at times booking takes place from Siliguri and the trouble begins.Sometimes consumers pay huge amount but don’t get appropriate services.While Insurance claims are at times not given as per the rule,on getting less money they file complaints.There are complaints about tours and travel.(It’s when the fare is charged more than the existing rates. and standard rooms are not provided in hotels).’
They get different consumer complaints and take the needful action.Actions are taken via emails,phones and at times physical presence.
The rural people are mostly benefitted this way.
Counsellor has advised the Consumers / Customers is -‘ don’t pay more than Maximum Retail Price( MRP) Always ask for receipt,be sure the weight & measures are standard and bear Govt seal.Expiry dates should be checked while buying things, guarantee, warranty.
And the Shopkeepers are advised never to sell products above MRP, after expiry of dates, receipts should be given.
