Gangtok:28th Nov: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista has a good news for the entire region .He had a meeting with the NHAI officials and visited the Coronation Bridge. And has been informed that the Alternative Bridge and approach road, will be part of the greater plan including Siliguri Ring Road, and the Expressway connecting Siliguri to Gorakhpur.
‘The tender process for an Alternative Bridge , approach road will begin in December and construction will commence immediately after that’,said MP Bista.
‘Even though the Central Government had allocated Rs 1190 crores for the construction of a new bridge and an approach road, there had been inordinate delay due to jurisdictional issues. The particular section was under WB PWD-NH division, but now it has been officially handed over to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)’,added MP.
According to Bista, ‘While the rest of the project is being taken up phase wise, process for construction of an alternative to Coronation bridge will begin next month, connecting Ellenbari to Sevoke.It has been a long pending demand of the people from this region.Work for another dream project of Siliguri Ring Road, is also progressing gradually’.
‘The Coronation Bridge serves as a vital link between Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim, Siliguri, the Dooars region, and North Eastern states. This alternative bridge will complement the existing bridge, and lessen its burden substantially’,MP added further.
Since his election to Parliament from Darjeeling in 2019, he said he has been working tirelessly to address the massive infrastructural and developmental gaps that have plagued the region since Independence.
‘On behalf of the people from our Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars region, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and MoRTH Nitin Gadkari for giving top priority towards the developmental of our region’,said MP Raju Bista.
Many social organisations and NGOs who have struggled towards the construction of the alternative bridge ,with him have been applauded by MP for their ‘ dedication and perseverance’.
