Poet Amar Baniya Lohoro Felicitated by NESAP
Gangtok,11th Nov : Sahitya Akademy awardee Amar Baniya Lohoro was felicitated by Nepali Sahitya Parishad ,here today,on the occasion of 116th Birth Anniversary of Poet Laxami Prasad Devkota,today.
Baniya received the Sahitya Akademy award for translation of a hindi novel in Nepali.He had translated the novel by Dr Indu Wallia titled ‘ Vatan’.His translated version ‘ Matribhumi’is now available for Rs 250/-.It is the 5th translated book of total 7 translated so far .Bania has also 12 books penned by him.
Amar Bania started writing during his early youth And now he is a renowned author ,poet and of course translater.
How did he get to translate the book he has been awarded for?
Speaking about it ,he said, ‘ While attending a meet in Rajasthan he met someone who gave him the book and asked him to read it also comment on it.He had a few to read but he did it Later back to Sikkim he was asked by the Visiting Professor who had given him the book, if he had read it.So he expressed his opinion about it.And was asked if it was possible to translate the book.He said ‘ its not impossible’.And he then started it.
And completed soon,despite his slip disc problem.
Bania was happy to translate the novel about Noor Mahal village of Panjab’, he said.Dr N Walia the author of the book is now 88 years old and resides in Delhi.She has written 11 novels.The book has some part on spiritualism,social duties,patriotism and friendship.
Bania was happy to be felicitated on the great day and has dedicated the honour to ‘ bhasha’ .
