Amar Baniya Lohoro Conferred with Sahitya Akademi Anuwad Puruskar 2025 (Nepali)
Kolkata, 24th. October : Sikkim based literary figure Amar Baniya Lohoro has been conferred with prestigious Sahitya Akademi Anuwad Puruskar 2025 in the Nepali language category at Kolkata, West Bengal. He has been conferred this honour for his Nepali translation “Matribhumi”, originally written in Hindi as “Watan” by Dr. Nirmal Waliya. He is a resident 6th Mile , Tadong , Gangtok.
The Sahitya Akademi Anuwad Puruskar (Translation Award), instituted in 1989, is presented annually by Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters. The award recognizes outstanding translations of creative and critical literary works into 24 major Indian languages, including English, Rajasthani, and the 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
The award carries a plaque and a cash prize of ₹50,000, celebrating excellence in literary translation that bridges cultures and languages.
This achievement by Amar Baniya Lohoro is a proud moment for the literary community of Sikkim and the entire Nepali literary fraternity.
