
Gangtok,6th Oct:( Nita Nirash) MP Darjeeling visited several landslide-affected areas in the Mirik sub-division, beginning with one of the worst-hit locations, Dhargaon in Toklang, Soureni.
According to MP Bista ,’ damage there is severe, four people have died, five are injured, and at least ten houses have been destroyed or severely damaged. Many residents are now staying in temporary shelters or with neighbors.’
MP made it a point to visit the Community Center in Soureni, which is currently housing 18 families. And donated some food items and assured the families that further relief and support to rebuild their homes will be provided.
At the Mirik Block Primary Health Centre, he met with landslide victims receiving treatment.
According to Bista ,’ With 11 confirmed deaths in the sub-division, many are still in shock, and healthcare staff are doing their best with limited resources. He commended their hard work and dedication.In Mirik Lake Side Thana Line, Ward No. 3, three lives were tragically lost mother, father, and daughter, while the homes and livelihood of other family members have been impacted.’
MP has highlighted , ‘ immediate priority is to provide relief, food, shelter, and medical care. Beyond that, we must focus on long-term rehabilitation to help these families rebuild their lives.’
