Prez CAP Ganesh Rai’s Message on World Tourism Day 2025 -“Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”.
On the occasion of World Tourism Day 2025, I extend my warm greetings to the people of Sikkim and all those who believe in the power of sustainable travel and cultural exchange.
Sikkim, with its majestic mountains, rich biodiversity, vibrant traditions, and warm hospitality, holds immense potential in the tourism sector. Over the years, this industry has not only boosted our state’s economy but also engaged and empowered a large section of our population from small entrepreneurs and homestay owners to transporters, guides, artisans, and countless others whose livelihoods are deeply tied to tourism.
However, in recent times, our tourism sector has faced severe setbacks. The tragic GLOF event and unpredictable climate conditions have disrupted connectivity, safety, and stability, hitting the very backbone of tourism. Regions like North Sikkim an abode of natural beauty have been among the worst affected, where families dependent on daily tourism income are struggling for survival.
This calls for urgent action. Tourism cannot be left to chance or crisis it needs greater focus, resilience planning, and sustainable policies. The theme of this year’s Tourism Day “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation” must be our guiding principle. We must rebuild and transform the sector in a way that preserves nature, secures livelihoods, and strengthens communities.
Ganesh K Rai has appealed to public saying,’Let us work together to ensure that Sikkim’s tourism industry does not just recover, but emerges stronger, greener, and more inclusive a true engine of prosperity for our state and an inspiration for the world’.
