Illegal Online Gaming by People in Sikkim – Crores Worth Bank Accounts Frozen :DIG (R) CID Tenzing Lepcha
Gangtok,22nd Aug: DIG Range CID,Tenzing Loden Lepcha,warning public about fake Investment sites,has said,’It is always advisable to get the site verified at Police station ,particularly Investment sites offering lucrative sum for small amount and others. Complaints about certain Investment scams have been filed by 4 persons.They had invested Rs 4-5 Lakh and more have also been reported’ He was speaking at the conference on ‘Action taken against illegal Online Gaming Websites’ at Police Headquarter on Friday.
According to DIG,(also the State Nodal officer), ‘ The domain and server are important for the websites ,followed by banking transaction.We found the domain is out of India and server by Amazon,so we had to request ,sending notice to TSPs ( Vodaphone etc) to ensure not allowing these domain activity,blocking these.We aspired to stop 72 Websites but now there are 90 ,technically too hard for words ,so we tried via Banks.Letters were sent to Banks to freeze they had issues so we sent a court notice and its done. Now Khelo –‘ is sending messages here that its not allowed here.We have directed the Banks to block these in any case even though the banking circle is in WB.45 Thousand customers from Sikkim are there in Khelo’. We have been freezing level one.Later level 2 will be done after we get KYC,we are trying to identify now.
CM has also said 4-5 cases are there of people having lost in gaming have committed suicide.Hence investigation has been carried out.We need to generate awareness.Now other case is of Crypto currency Suraj IPS is investigating 4 complainants are there having invested Lakhs .So dont be allured get sites verified.Dont invest more.
Principal Director said, In Sikkim campaign had started against illegal gaming in 2023 but it has gained momentum only after DIG CID Tenzing Lepcha took over.We had filed a complaint in his office and a letter was written to Delhi by CM,after this we had meetings and video calls .Finally we are happy that all out points have been covered by the Bill (now Act) passed by Parliament against Illegal Online Gaming .
