Journalists should never compromise on Facts: MLA Kala Rai
Gangtok: MLA Kala Rai is addressing the huge gathering of Press people from Govt and Pvt emphasised on all that is expected from Journalists Present among others on Saturday, were representatives from All India Radio Gangtok and Press Information Bureau.
‘ Never compromise on Facts. Journalists should not lose their credibility.Never take sides.Never focus on only one person only for the sake of TRP.I’,said MLA Rai.She was addressing the media at the Ram Patro Memorial Award function.The awards for journalists have been instituted as a homage to Late Journalist Patro and to inspire journalists by Sikkim Express & Himali Bela news paper(s) Editors – publishers Mala Rana Patro,Amit Patro and Krishna Patro.
Special Guest at the award ceremony ML A Kala Rai said further, ‘I liked the times when we had many News Papers on our table.But now we scroll through read something next moment it is either deleted or the reporter is seen apologising ( for mistakes). In this way what will we tell our next generation?’ said she comparing print journalism to Social Media.
‘ When you people write about the society fearlessly ,we too feel attracted towards Journalism. I know Journalists are financially weak,the newspaper authorities don’t pay them properly ( in Sikkim ?) I sometimes wish I was a journalist!You all should remain bold,never drift away from truth’,added Rai.( Rai perhaps is aware of some papers backing out paying for 4-5 years getting forced labour)!
