Gangtok:24th Feb: 30 Schools participated in the State level Environment Education prog cum exhibition hosted at MG Marg ,here for students. The stalls were visited by the Chief Guest Minister Education Raju Basnet and Guest of Honour Minister for Forest and Environment Pintso Namgyal Bhutia,conducted around by the Secretary Forests. Ministers interacted with students at each stall, which served as further motivation to young ones.
5 Schools were adjudged best and awarded by the Ministers. First place was secured by Makha Senior Secondary School.
Minister for Education Raju Basnet addressing the gathering ,said ,’Deptt of Forests has done good job by arranging for opening of Environment clubs in Schools. Only studying is not sufficient, skilling is required .Skills once aquired can be used in life for self employment .’ He appreciated the products displayed by students and congratulated them.
Minister of host deptt Pintso Namgyal, expressed pleasire at the good response to the exhibition of products made of waste and other material .’ Environment education being imparted in Schools will encourage entrepreneurship.It is important these days ,instead of looking for jobs one should try to get self reliant.Our students have huge potential it has been provided the required platform and will lead to their progress, ‘ said Minister Puntso Namgyal
The exhibits that attracted visitors ,included woollen jewellery,hair clips, decoration items,waste paper baskets, soaps ,button flowers, exercise books and many more.
